It is important to note that there is no pass or fail, and you are not required to answer every question as we are recruiting developers with varying levels of experience.

We hire developers who share the same passion and enthusiasm for the web as we do.

Medium questions

In MySQL, which storage engine would you choose for a table that stores log entries, and why? You can assume a volume of 100,000 log entries per day, and it gets cleared once per day via cron.

One of our client’s websites is getting a lot of traffic and running slowly. In your experience, what are some quick and easy wins to improve performance?

With regards to MVC, discuss your thoughts on passing model objects directly to the view.

Discuss the different use cases of JSON and XML.

What is your preferred Git workflow and why?

Hard questions

Write a pseudocode program to solve the following problem. You have the numbers 1 to 100 in an array, but one is missing. They array is not in order. How do you find the missing number? Bonus points if you can do it in a single iteration of the array.

Explain whether or not you can directly call a static method of an abstract class.

Can you tell us what mechanism we are using to time this form submission?

Show Drupal specific - you can ignore if you have no Drupal experience

What are some of the drawbacks with the hook system used in Drupal?

Explain how Drush has changed your life.

What are some of the new features of Drupal 8 that have you the most excited?

Magento specific - you can ignore if you have no Magento experience

Magento has many ways of extending the core functionality. In your opinion, which method is the best to use, and of course why do you think so?

Explain when to (and when not to) use the local.xml layout file.

Describe the difference between a Grouped Product and a Bundled Product.

What’s the difference between the router and controller?
